Park Management Plan Review
News Release
Point Pelee National Park of Canada announces its upcoming Park Management Plan review
LEAMINGTON, October 28, 2002 -As custodian of national parks, Parks Canada needs to hear from Canadians.
Point Pelee National Park of Canada invites the public to become involved in the review of its Park Management Plan. Public
information and consultation sessions, including newsletters and public meetings, are planned for Spring 2003.
National parks are required by the Canada National Parks Act to have a management plan. Approved by Parliament,
this plan articulates the park's vision and outlines the commitment to achieving ecological integrity as it relates to protection,
presentation, use, services, administration, partnerships and public involvement. Park Management Plans are reviewed on a
five year cycle.
Point Pelee National Park protects and presents a tiny slice of the rare Carolinian' environment. Living within the patchwork
of natural habitats - marsh, cedar savannah, forest and beach - is a complexity of life unlike anywhere else in Canada. The
Park hosts more than 300,000 visitors each year providing many opportunities for its appreciation and enjoyment, including
hiking, bicycling, canoeing, picnicking, nature programs and exhibits. All of these factors contribute to making Point Pelee
National Park one of the most well-known of Canada's 39 national parks.
